"My mother was in a vehicle and they chose to drink and drive," Donahue said. "And she did not have to die. But they chose to get in a car intoxicated and now I do not have a mother. My nieces and nephews do not have a grandmother. My children will never know my mother."

Former UD coach charged in fatal crash

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office confirms to 2 NEWS that Paul Ivkovich is charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide.

Sentencing handed down for ex-UD coach

Judge O’Connell had a sentencing range from 2 to 8 years. Crawford’s oldest daughter asked for four years.

“We were robbed of the most important person in our lives that night,” Donahue said. “We were given a lifetime sentence of feeling incomplete.”

Paul Ivkovich, 35, a University of Dayton Basketball Coach, could face charges of aggravated vehicular manslaughter after he crashed into the cement pillars of a train overpass on East Third Street. Sharon Shockey, 48, was a passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident. Have charges been filed?  Why has there been no new information in over a month?

Hi Mia, I have done more online research on this tragic accident, and thus far there is no word on any charges being filed. Often when toxicology reports are done, the results take weeks. Thanks so much for your fast response.  I hope you didn't think I was aiming that comment at your website.  I just haven't found any mention of the accident anywhere since May 1 and thought it odd.  I've written to the local news channels with no response.  I appreciate you taking the time to answer me and also knowing this accident has not been forgotten.

My Sister Sharon was killed in this horrible accident on my daughter's birthday.  Our Family will  be broken forever. Sharon was so  beautiful inside and out. Today I watched a video our dad had made of our Family at Hocking Hills. I heard heard voice and saw her face. We were talking about the  breath taking views and the colors of the trees. I heard her laugh and sing. I still need her, her children still need her. The pain is still so raw.   Nancy

Nancy, I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family are being forced to embark on this path of grief and loss, and it isn't fair. Others I have spoken with in similar situations have found comfort and guidance in working with grief support professionals who can help you come to a place of healing, although truly the pain never goes away but it will morph over time. Hi Mia, It is not unusual that there are no news reports of criminal charges filed against an at-fault driver. The Prosecuting Attorney in the county may have decided to file charges but the local media sources are unaware or choose not to run a story. I went to the Prosecutor's website, and they stopped doing press releases back in 2014. I did more online research and found no new information. I sent an email to the prosecutor's staff to see if any charges have been filed. I will update this accident story with what I learn. Ingrid, Accident Data Center

Mia, I heard back from the Public Information Officer in the Prosecutor's Office, and at this time the Dayton Police Department has not presented this matter to their office for consideration of any charges. I do not know why no charges have yet to be filed. It may still be the case that charges come later. Again, if I find updated information, I will certainly add it to Accident Data Center. Ingrid

I'm hoping you can answer a question for me.  I read that the driver has been charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter.   H Iow can he be charged with two counts?  Then I read that it is going to the grand jury in a few weeks.   If he has already been charged then why the need for a grand jury?

Thanks Erica, I am currently not able to view the video on the WDTN site; they are saying it's not available, so I couldn't get any information there. However, the grand jury will  determine if there is enough evidence to go forward with the charges against the at-fault driver. Ingrid, ADC

For anyone wanting an update, we will be going to court Dec 13th to begin the trial. My heart still aches everyday... I hope after over a year and half of this, we can finally start to heal. Unfortunately, no matter the outcome, WE have been given a lifetime sentence of pain and emptiness.

My heart goes out to Sharon's family and friends. I cannot imagine the immense grief you're burdened with. Healing from her passing must seem like a daunting task. Please know that she is always with you in Spirit and that whenever you see the number 48, you will know it's her. Sending you my love and sincerest condolences.

Went to school with Sharon since 8th grade, nicest person & smile that lit up the room. Im so sorry for the familys loss, thoughts & prayers to you all
