MELVILLE - Police say no charges have been filed after a man was killed walking on the Long Island Expressway in Melville.

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian last evening.

Investigators conducted a safety check of the tractor trailer on scene, but the cause of the crash was not immediately known.
Russell Davenport, 62, was driving a United State Postal Service semi-truck west on the Long Island Expressway, when he struck 52-year-old Stephen Puleo at about 10:30 p.m. After Davenport stopped and tried to help Puleo, authorities arrived and pronounced Puleo dead. No charges were filed in this accident.
