Sunday on the ramp from the Lodge to I-75, Michigan State Police told FOX 2 Detroit. He wasn’t wearing pants, police told FOX 2. No others drivers were struck. “Driver inattention is the leading factor in most crashes and near-crashes,” the Michigan State Police website says, citing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Virginia Tech Transportation Institute. As of July 1, 2010, Michigan law prohibits texting while driving.

DETROIT (AP) — Police say a man who was watching a movie on his phone has died in a car crash on a Detroit highway. The 58-year-old Jones wasn't wearing a seat belt. Clifford Ray Jones of Detroit was partially ejected through the sunroof when his 1996 Toyota rolled in the wee hours Sunday. Mike Shaw of the state police says it appears to be another case of a driver distracted by technology. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The accident happened early Sunday morning just after 3:30. Michigan State Police troopers were called to the ramp from the Lodge to southbound I-75 on a one-car accident. The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the car was watching a movie while behind the wheel, police said on Monday. The driver was not wearing a seat belt when he lost control and rolled the car. He was partially ejected through the sunroof and died on scene.
