Three Dead After I-80 Crash

John Jackson, a 64 year old resident of Leasburg, Missouri was operating a 2012 Volvo tractor with trailer. Mr. Jackson was slowed/stopped in traffic at mile post 380 on Interstate 80 eastbound at the completion of an oversize vehicle movement crossing I 80 at mile post 386 south to north from Wyoming State Highway 214 to Wyoming State Highway 213. Two members of the Wyoming Highway Patrol were present assisting with the oversize movement. Mr. Knotts was traveling east and came upon the slowed/stopped truck and trailer at highway speeds, failed to stop within a safe distance and crashed into the back of the commercial trailer. Mr. Knotts and two children in the Toyota, ages nine and six, all sustained fatal injuries on scene. All three occupants were properly restrained in the vehicle. Mr. Jackson and his passenger, 56 year old Brenda Jackson, did not sustain any injuries from the crash.

CHEYENNE (WTE) - A Michigan man and two young children died Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle crash that closed Interstate 80 for about five hours. The Wyoming Highway Patrol announced this afternoon that 45-year-old David Knotts of Jenison, Michigan, and a 9-year-old and 6-year-old died in the crash. The fatal crash caused a detour for eastbound traffic at exit 377 of the interstate. The crash happened around 5:50 p.m. and eastbound lanes opened just before 11 p.m. The Toyota crashed into the back of the commercial trailer, driven by 64-year-old John Jackson of Leasburg, Missouri.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says a Michigan man and two children traveling in his vehicle died in a two-vehicle accident east of Cheyenne Wednesday afternoon. Knotts and the two children are projected to be the 59th, 60th and 61st highway fatalities in Wyoming for 2015. An oversize vehicle was crossing I- 80 at mile post 386 south to north from Wyoming State Highway 214 to Wyoming State Highway 213, the movement of which was being assisted by two members of the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Jackson and his passenger, 56 year old Brenda Jackson, did not sustain any injuries from the crash. All three fatalities were the occupants traveling in a 2006 Toyota Highlander. 45 year old David Knotts of Jenison, Michigan and two children ages 9 and 6 were killed in the accident.

3 killed in I-80 crash Wednesday near Cheyenne

CHEYENNE - A two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening on Interstate 80 just east of Cheyenne killed a man from Michigan and his two young daughters. The Wyoming Highway Patrol confirmed Thursday that three people died in the crash. Eastbound traffic on I-80 was detoured around the scene at exit 377 onto a service road that linked back onto I-80 at mile marker 386. The tractor-trailer was stopped in traffic while law enforcement helped with an oversized vehicle movement crossing I-80 at mile marker 386.
