Pedestrian killed by car in Lee County

VSP Trooper M.C. Munsey is investigating the incident that occurred at 2 a.m. on Route 58A less than a mile west of Route 643. A 2010 Ford Focus was traveling east on Route 58A in the left lane when it encountered a pedestrian in the travel lane. Police say the vehicle was unable to avoid the man who was standing in the road and not wearing any reflective clothing. The pedestrian, Phillip S. Ely, 37, of Pennington Gap, died at the scene.
