Police ID man killed in crash on I-64 east in New Kent Posted: Updated: Police believe speed was a factor in a crash which killed a Williamsburg man on Interstate 64 east in New Kent on Wednesday morning. The tractor-trailer driver initially thought the jolt was caused by a popped tire and only discovered the small vehicle wedged underneath the trailer after pulling over. Troopers say Garrett changed lanes, hitting a tractor-trailer. Troopers say Charles E. S. Garrett, 27, was likely speeding east on the interstate around 5:19 a.m. near mile marker 214, just prior to the New Kent Courthouse exit. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and will not be charged.

Williamsburg man killed in crash in New Kent County

New Kent County – A Williamsburg man was killed early Wednesday morning in a two vehicle crash in New Kent County. The crash occurred at 5:19 a.m. on Interstate 64 eastbound at the 214.1 mile marker, just before the New Kent Courthouse exit. 27-year-old Charles E.S. Garrett of Williamsburg died at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer thought a tire had blown and pulled over, at which point realized he had been struck by another vehicle.  The driver of the Freightliner was not injured. Garrett was not wearing a seatbelt.
