Woman on bike dies after being struck by car in Hanover

Authorities are asking for the public'€™s help after a woman on a bike was killed after she was struck by a car in Hanover County Saturday morning. Deputies said the bicyclist was headed west on Mountain Road when a Buick Century slammed into back of the her bike. Officials said it happened just before 11 a.m. near the intersection of Mountain Road and Farrington Road. The driver of the sedan was not injured. '€œInvestigators are still collecting information and working with the Medical Examiner'€™s Office to identify the deceased cyclist,'€ Sgt. Matthew Ratchford wrote in a news release. '€œInvestigators will be consulting with the Hanover Commonwealth Attorney'€™s Office in regards to future charges.'€ If you have information that could help investigators, call the Hanover County Sheriff'€™s Office at 804-730-6110.

Hanover Police ID cyclist killed in collision Saturday

The Hanover Sheriff'€™s Office responded to a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist near the intersection of Mountain Road and Farrington Road Saturday morning. Anyone who may have information relating to this investigation is asked to contact the Hanover County Sheriff'€™s Office at (804) 730-6110. A 1996 Buick Century was also traveling west on Mountain Road when it struck the bicycle from behind. The preliminary investigation revealed a lone bicyclist was traveling west on Mountain Road. The driver of the Buick Century reported no injuries.

The Richmond Area Bicycling Association held an event Saturday morning to honor Carrie Wortham, a Glen Allen cyclist killed after being struck from behind in September. The VMI graduate and humanitarian, who served in Haiti, had just moved into her mother’s Glen Allen home before the crash.
