Nine total first responders are also being treated for exposure injuries from the freezing cold water. Four were taken to the hospital and five were treated on scene.
A man was driving on Lee Davis Road around 12:21 p.m. when the vehicle left the road, ran through a fence and landed in a retention pond located at 7090 Covenant Woods Drive. Nine first responders worked to pull him out of the van and rush him to VCU Medical Center. Four of the first responders are now in treatment for exposure. The driver's condition is unknown. Authorities are continueing to investigate the crash.
