3 killed in Killington crash

Three people were killed Tuesday afternoon when a sports utility vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided on U.S. Route 4 in Killington, police said. Police urged drivers to avoid Route 4 from the Pico Ski Area in Mendon to west of the junction with Vermont Route 100. U.S. Route 7 south to Vermont Route 103 and Route 100 in Ludlow were recommended detours to avoid the closed portion of Route 4. Seven people were involved in the crash, and three people were confirmed dead. The names of the victims and conditions of the other occupants were not released.

Police recommend drivers needing to travel east or west or west to east to use US 7 South to Vt. 103 onto Vt. 100 in Ludlow.

Three die in Vermont crash when SUV, tractor-trailer collide

Police are providing few details about the crash that happened Tuesday afternoon on Route 4 in the ski resort town of Killington. The two vehicles carried a total of seven occupants. Police also said the highway, a key east-west artery across south-central Vermont, will be closed for several hours and could possibly extend into early Wednesday.

Investigators said Ryszard Malarczyk and his wife, Anita Malarczyk, both 50, of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, and their passenger Jaroslaw Karczewski, 51, of Poland, were pronounced dead at the scene.
