Haschel says the drivers of the 18-wheeler and the car were killed in the wreck. Superintendent Judd Marshall told KXAS-TV in Dallas that 18 students were taken to hospitals.

2 killed in Mount Pleasant High School bus crash

The Mount Pleasant High School bus was carrying the boys’ track team home from a meet. It was hit by an 18-wheeler and rolled.

The truck then hit a car driven by an assistant coach for the girls' team. Both of those drivers were killed. Their identities have not yet been released

The driver of the semitrailer and the driver of the car, identified as Mount Pleasant High School assistant girls track coach Angelica Beard, 30, were pronounced dead.  Several passengers on the school bus were taken to area hospitals.

The boys’ team bus toppled over in the initial collision then the big rig struck the car driven by an assistant coach for the girls’ team. The girls’ team bus was trailing behind and wasn’t involved in the collision.

Eighteen students were sent to area hospitals. The bus driver, assistant coach Van Bowen, was also seriously injured, but he is credited with averting a head-on crash, potentially saving the lives of students.

Mount Pleasant Independent School District officials said two coaches and a student are still in the hospital after a school bus was involved in a multi-vehicle collision wreck on U.S. Highway 271.

Superintendent Judd Marshall said one of the coaches was able to go home this afternoon.

The Iraan Track & Field team members are planning on putting personalized labels on the bottles they send to the Mount Pleasant students. Students will also accept donations of money to buy the bottles themselves.

According to the final DPS crash report, toxicology reports from the Dallas County Medical Examiner shows that the truck driver, Bradley Farmer, had methamphetamine in his system.
