Another motorist was at the intersection and saw the wreck happen. He got out of his vehicle and pulled the man from the driver seat of the wrecked car as it began to catch fire.
A man who died in a car accident in Kirby Thursday morning has been identified as Gilbert Salazar, 20, who was killed when his car hit a curb on FM 78. The car then careened across Gibbs Sprawl Road and into a traffic light pole, which subsequently crashed down on top of the vehicle. The cause of the crash is believed to be high speed on rain-slick roads. Some witnesses estimate that Salazar was traveling as fast as 80 mph when he crashed. The crash and subsequent investigation shut down several nearby roads for hours.
