Family, friends mourn 2 victims killed in fiery crash on I-27

20-year-old Joseph Espinoza was killed in a Friday morning crash on Interstate 27 near 40th street. 18-year-old Mia Brittany Biera died in the hospital late Friday afternoon.

Witnesses say she was pulled from the car moments before it burst into flames.

Police say Espinoza was changing a flat tire on his Mustang when a truck crashed into the car.

Martinez said Biera made the decision to be an organ donor after she renewed her driver’s license. When the doctor told Biera’s family her organs would help save the lives of eight others, the situation became bittersweet.

Joseph's services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lubbock.
