His son, Charlie Contreras, Jr. posted a goodbye message to his father on Facebook which reads, “RIP Charles Gabriel Contreras Sr. March 22nd 1955-April 29th 2015. Good bye my father. I know you’re with God. Watch Over me as I know you always do.”

With Contreras' death, he could now be facing additional charges. Charlie Contreras, a beloved 33-year veteran of Dallas Fire-Rescue, is survived by two adult sons and a daughter.
A retired Dallas firefighter who was hit by an alleged drunk driver has died. Charles Contreras Sr., 60, was struck Sunday while on his motorcycle by the driver of a pickup truck who ran a red light. Officers arrested the hit-and-run suspect not far from the crash scene. Contreras had been in a coma and in critical condition until he died on Wednesday.
