2 Killed in Ellis County Helicopter Crash: County EMS

The aircraft went went down near Farm-to-Market Road 876 and Bell Branch Road, close to Italy, at about noon Wednesday, according to Trooper Lonny Haschel with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It is unclear if any other people were on board.

Bell Helicopter confirmed fatalities after its aircraft crashed. A source tells News 8 three helicopters were flying in formation when the incident happened.

But a company statement indicates that the crash was part of an ongoing effort with the company’s test labs to make a new, sophisticated civilian helicopter called the 525 Relentless.

Test pilots killed in helicopter crash were Marine reservists

Majs. Erik Boyce and Jason Grogan died in the July 6 crash, according to officials at Marine Corps Forces Reserve. Both men flew AH-1W Super Cobras in the Marine Corps.
