Bicyclist, Army veteran on trek dies after Texas accident

GROOM, Texas (AP) A California bicyclist on a nationwide journey to draw attention to the rights of U.S. military veterans has died in a Texas traffic accident. The Amarillo Globe-News reports Clift, who served in the Army, was on a bicycle journey called March Across America for Homeless Veterans. The Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday identified the victim as 48-year-old Stephen Michael Clift of San Diego, California. DPS says Clift was struck Thursday night by a vehicle on eastbound Interstate 40 near Groom. Clift was transported to a hospital in Amarillo, where he died on Friday.

Veteran bicyclist killed in accident

A cross-country bicyclist died Friday when he was struck by a vehicle Thursday evening along west of Groom, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers said. About 6:30 p.m., Stephen Michael Clift, 48, of San Diego, was riding his bicycle eastbound in the outside lane of Interstate 40 when a 2013 Kia driven by Cindi Trevino, 42, of Groom, struck Clift.
