Mother, son killed on I-65 after trying to help crash victims
“Kristi and her son, Carter, are heroes,” said Franklin Police Chief Deborah Faulkner in a news release. “These Good Samaritans put themselves in harm's way to help a stranger. The goodness in their hearts that prompted them to do that will never be forgotten.”

The couple has a daughter together, 4-year-old Adelyn. Kristi also leaves behind a stepson and stepdaughter, ages 11 and 7.

Kristi’s dad is now teaming up with the Franklin Police Department to honor his daughter and grandson, while also helping needy families out this holiday season.
A mother and her young son died on Interstate 65 in Franklin after stopping to help people in a vehicle that had crashed. Kristi Clark, 34, and Carter Oakley, 10, stopped to help when an SUV slid on ice and rolled over after 9 p.m. Monday. As they got out of their car they were hit and by a passing semi truck. Carter was pronounced deceased at the crash scene, and his mother was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Some of the people in the SUV that overturned were injured as well. Police have not released the names of the truck driver or the people in the SUV.
