The South Carolina Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal accident on US-501 and Myrtle Ridge, near Sparks Toyota after a vehicle and moped crash.

Moped rider killed in 501 crash, one charged

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of the Lexus, 32-year-old Sonny James, was charged with failure to yield the right away. A moped was traveling south on US-501 and a 2002 Lexus four door was attempting to cross over US-501. The Lexus failed to yield the right away, causing the moped to strike the Lexus, according to SCHP. Police said the occupant on the moped was killed and the other was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center. HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident on US-501 near Sparks Toyota after a Lexus and moped collided Monday night, the driver of the Lexus is now facing charges. It is unclear if the victim was the driver or passenger of the moped.

Moped rider killed in 501 crash, one charged

Police said the occupant on the moped, 35 year-old Brandi Lee Haines of Myrtle Beach, died on the scene from injuries sustained from the accident. Highway Patrol said the other occupant was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center. It is unclear if the victim was the driver or passenger of the moped.
