Pittsburgh man dies in Elk County crash

Police said Michael McGinnis is charged for driving too fast for conditions; he was transported to Penn Highlands Elk for a legal blood draw due to suspicion of driving under the influence.

Four men were in a Honda Civic driven by Michael McGinnis of Pittsburgh on State Route 949 in Spring Creek Township at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when the driver lost control and left the roadway. The vehicle then went airborn over an embankment, hitting several trees before finally coming to rest on its roof. One passenger, Daniel McGinnis of Pittsburgh, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, Sean Collins, 44, of Cranberry Township, suffered major injuries. Michael McGinnis and another passenger, Benjamin Nagy, 23, were not injured in the crash. Michael McGinnis was the only person in the car who was wearing a seatbelt, and he was taken in for a blood test on suspicion of driving under the influence.
