Woman, unborn baby killed in accident identified
Ross said an autopsy is scheduled for tonight because of the circumstances but the pair died of severe blunt trauma.
A Blair County woman and her unborn child died Wednesday morning when a vehicle struck her on the North 8th Street bridge after the woman stopped and exited her vehicle. Brandyn Boyd, 29, had on her flashing emergency lights and was standing behind her car when she was struck by a Jeep driven by Tarence Mosey, 21. Boyd was 37 weeks pregnant with a baby girl, and the baby did not survive the crash. The baby was named Lauralynn Walters. According to investigators, Boyd stopped because she was out of gas. Boyd and Mosey were taken to UPMC Altoona. Boyd and her child were pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Why every fatality from a crash is not legally a wrongful death
After someone dies in a motor-vehicle accident, grieving family members and friends are often left with many questions. What caused the accident? Could it have been avoided? What do they do now that their loved one is gone?
Sometimes a fatal collision happens through no one's fault. Crashes caused by weather and road conditions, or by wildlife in the roadway, are examples. But when a fatal crash is caused by negligence, then family members should pursue a wrongful death claim, to uphold the victim's rights and begin the financial recovery process.
