Former U.S. Rep. James Traficant Jr., 73, dies from injuries sustained in tractor accident on his family farm in Greenford, Ohio

Traficant's wife, Tish, told The (Youngstown) Vindicator that the 73-year-old former congressman was in "very critical condition" on Wednesday following the Tuesday night accident on his family farm in Greenford. His wife said a tractor he was pulling fell on him and trapped him underneath. He was at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown on Wednesday. 

He was riding a small 1943 tractor when he "somehow lost control," Goshen Police Chief Steve McDaniel said, causing the tractor to roll on top of him.

Former Rep. James Traficant, the Ohio politician whose career included 17 years in Congress and a conviction for bribery, has died at age 73. Traficant's family had been fearing for his life since earlier this week, when he was critically injured in a tractor accident.

James Anthony Traficant Jr., a maverick ex-congressman from Youngstown who was known for populist oratory, bellbottomed outfits, and clashes with federal law enforcement agencies, died today from injuries suffered in a tractor accident at his daughter's Mahoning County farm. He was 73 years old.
