72-year-old pilot dies in single-plane crash in Smith Township

An OHSP trooper said today that Stuhlmiller crashed in a field about 6:30 p.m. just a quarter-mile from Tri City Airport in Beloit in Smith Township. Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are at the crash scene to begin their investigations. ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) '€” The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the pilot of a single-engine plane was killed in a crash shortly after taking off from a small northeast Ohio airport. The trooper says it appears the plane crashed nose first. Robert Stuhlmiller, 72, of Alliance was pronounced dead at the scene Friday by the Mahoning County coroner'€™s office.
