Worthington Kilbourne water polo team involved in fatal crash near Toledo

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Five others were flown by helicopter to an area hospital.

Worthington City Schools confirmed that the team was on the way to a tournament in Napoleon.

The driver and four girls, ages 14, 14, 15 and 17, were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, the Sheriff's Office said. The truck driver was not injured.

Vigil held for former Worthington Kilbourne water polo player

Friends, teammates, students, staff and members of the community held a candlelight vigil at the spirit rock at Worthington Kilbourne High School.

Approximately 1,000 people attended.

Worthington continues to mourn after fatal crash but finds strength in Courtney’s legacy

Staff members and fellow lifeguards are still grieving the loss of their friend and colleague while thinking of those victims still hospitalized. Lifeguard Eric “Beanie” Hallfrisch says, “We’re all really close. We spend a lot of time together in the guard shack. Or, out here we always have each other’s backs. If I need something, I know Courtney will back me up.”

Dad struggles with fatal crash on way to water polo match

A father says he's been feeling helpless after one daughter was killed and his wife and two other daughters were critically injured when a van driven by his wife was struck by a semitrailer while traveling to a high school water polo tournament.
