Woman charged in auto crash that killed Ohio utility worker

Twenty-four-old Amber Rooks of Norwood died May 2 of injuries from the accident. Police say the Chevrolet Cavalier swerved across center line, hitting Duke Energy subcontractor workers. Four other workers from Ohio and Kentucky were also injured. Schuster was arrested Tuesday and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 7 in Butler County on counts that also include three charges of aggravated vehicular assault and operating a vehicle while impaired.

Authorities say tests showed Schuster had taken an anti-anxiety drug and a hallucinogenic substance.

It was about 3:20 p.m. when Michele Schuster, 23, was driving northward on Cox Road and for some reason crossed over the center line to the left shoulder, where she crashed through traffic cones before colliding with a bucket truck and four workers who were standing around it. Those workers have been identified as Tiffanie McCants, 35, Billy Moore, 47, Joseph Olephant, 53, and Amber Marie Rooks, 24. One worker was in the bucket truck at the time of the collision, he has been identified as Blake Patton, 22. All of the workers along with Schuster were transported to the hospital with injuries of varying severity. Charges are pending against Schuster.
