13-year-old dies in NC school bus stop hit and run

A 13-year-old middle school student died in a North Carolina hit-and-run collision while he was waiting for the school bus Tuesday morning, troopers said.

The parents of a 13-year-old Wendell boy killed Tuesday morning while waiting for the school bus want the driver who hit their son and then drove off to come forward to take responsibility.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed a 13-year-old boy on Edgemont Road near Wendell Tuesday morning.

Suspect in Wendell teen's hit-and-run death due in court Wednesday

Efren Vences, 28, of 186 Jack Road in Clayton, surrendered to the state Highway Patrol Tuesday afternoon and was charged with felony hit-and-run and no operator’s license. He was later charged Tuesday night with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle.  
Keith Jones was waiting for the bus near his home when he was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene. The boy later died from his injuries at a local hospital. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the crash to call 919-733-3861. "I could not live with something like that if I hit a child," Keith Jones Sr. said. "I will hope and I will pray, and I would like for him or her to come forward. We want to know what happened."
