2 on moped die after NC crash

Two people are dead following a crash involving their moped and two other vehicles on a four-lane North Carolina highway. The driver and passenger were ejected from the moped, and the passenger was hit by another vehicle traveling behind the SUV, troopers said. The moped was heading east when it was hit from behind by an SUV, troopers said. The crash was reported around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 264 in Greene County about 20 miles west of Greenville. It's not yet clear if the other drivers will face charges.

The moped driver, Matthew Randall, 27, and passenger, Larry Davis Jr., 31, were taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where they died. The moped was headed east when it was struck by a sport utility vehicle, knocking the driver and the passenger off the moped. The patrol said a second SUV hit the moped passenger. Troopers said it's not clear if charges will be filed in the crash, adding that mopeds are not permitted on limited access highways.
