Police: 3 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured in Head-on Crash
Authorities say a head-on crash on a major New Jersey roadway has left three people dead and two women seriously injured. But it's still not clear what caused Tuesday's accident on Route 9 in Old Bridge, near Route 516. Authorities say an SUV and a car were involved in the crash, which was reported around 12:30 p.m. Witnesses said the SUV crossed over a grass median and collided with the sedan.
3 Die, Others Hurt in New Jersey Crash
The SUV driver, who's from Howell Township, and the 36-year-old Accord driver, a woman from Freehold, were boith killed, police said. A 62-year-old man in the Accord was also killed, and two other women in the car, ages 62 and 86, were taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital with injuries.

- William Fairchild Jr., 45, of Howell, who was killed while driving a blue Ford Escape that was traveling south on Route 9 when it crossed over into the northbound lanes, police said. The Ford collided with a Honda Accord traveling northbound after crossing a median with no barrier.
- The driver of the Honda, Hope T. Wells, 37, of Freehold, and her passenger, Charles H. Kleiman, 62, of San Rafael, Calif., police said.

Kleiman's 86-year-old mother remains in serious condition and his wife is listed in stable condition.
