A borough police officer was taken to the hospital after his patrol car crashed into a pole when he swerved it to avoid a car whose driver apparently ignored his emergency lights and siren and cut him off. The officer, Glenn Tutschek, was responding to the report of a man pointing a handgun during a dispute. The car that allegedly cut him off, a silver sedan, went around cars that had been stopped for the officer’s cruiser about 1:45 p.m. The sedan’s driver used the left-hand-only lane to get around cars and continued west on Passaic Street. The officer avoided hitting the car but went off the road and struck a telephone pole and fire hydrant. Tutschek was treated for abrasions at Hackensack University Medical Center. Police were looking on Friday for the silver sedan, which fled west toward Rochelle Park. They also were looking for a car that had been involved in the handgun incident. A borough resident called police about a dispute on East Central Avenue that involved one man threatening another with a handgun. Police in nearby municipalities were notified to be on the lookout for a black four-door car with Florida license plates.
