Man killed girlfriend in drunken Easter crash
Responding to questions from defense attorney John Klamo, Martinez conceded that prior to the accident, he had been drinking vodka and orange juice at Connolly Station, a restaurant and tavern on Main Street in Belmar, and that his blood-alcohol level, at .207, was more than double the .08 legal limit for driving.
A woman was killed in a crash on Route 35 in Belmar early Sunday morning.
The victim's father stated that his 26-year-old daughter, Tiffany Soto, of Howell, died in the crash.
Witnesses say the car carrying the victim was coming down Eighth Avenue when it collided with another car. Soto's father says her boyfriend was driving at the time.
The car collided then with a pole, knocking it down, and flew into a parking lot at a marina. Soto's father says his daughter was ejected from the vehicle and ended up in the river. Others were hospitalized.
Route 35 was shut down following the collision, but has since been reopened.
