48 people evacuated from stranded tram cars on Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway

Greg Keeler, of Cannon Mountain, said employees could see the tram suspended about 40 feet off the ground from the parking lot and the highway. He said 41 people were on board the lower car, and seven people were in the top car. Keeler said people were rappelled down from the tram.

48 People Stuck on Tram During Frigid Day in New Hampshire

Mountain officials confirmed that 48 people were in the tram suspended in the air of the Franconia ski area. Shortly before 5 p.m., all but approximately 14 had been evacuated.

According to Cannon Mountain, a service brake issue caused the tram to stop at 1:50 p.m. At 3:20 p.m., officials decided to evacuate the passengers.

The tramway was expected to be closed until 8:15 a.m. Monday.
