NTSB investigators either traveled in support of this investigation or conducted a significant amount of investigative work without any travel, and used data obtained from various sources to prepare this aircraft accident report.
The pilot, Wilsey, turned the airplane toward the valley before it struck the trees and crashed. An intense fire broke out on the craft, killing Susan Majerus, and injuring the three other people aboard. The plane was a Cessna 177.
