One killed, two injured in early morning crash in Texas County

A one-car crash in Texas County killed the driver and injured two other people. The Missouri Highway Patrol reports Toby Mathes, 38, of Plato, died whe the Jeep he was driving missed a curve, and ran off Route M four miles south of Roby early Sunday morning. The vehicle then crashed into an embankment, and threw Mathes and one of the passengers out. The two passengers were taken to a Houston hospital with serious injuries.   Troopers say none of the three was wearing a safety belt.

UPDATED: One dies in Highway M accident; two injured

Dead is Toby W. Mathes, 38, who was the driver of an eastbound 1988 Jeep Grand Cherokee that failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the highway and struck an embankment, ejecting the driver and a passenger, Tpr. Travis Brown said. The vehicle came to rest on a fence after the 2 a.m. crash that was reported at about 8 a.m.
