Nefertiti D. Smith, 17, was a passenger in a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse that was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control on eastbound Interstate 470 at U.S. 50, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol accident report. The car veered off the right side of the highway about 11:50 p.m. and struck a guardrail, ejecting Nefertiti and the driver, Tamerick J. Wright, 17. The car then rolled over, ejecting Kenveion D. West, 18. Nefertiti was pronounced dead at an area hospital at 3:32 a.m.

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – A Blue Springs High School senior is dead after a car crash Friday night. Moore said she was with Smith Friday night at a party in Blue Springs. The group of friends said Smith was someone they always wanted to be around. “Just a really nice, genuine person,” Rayvon Lewis, who went to high school with Smith, said. Nefertiti Smith, 17, was ejected from a car she was riding in with two other teens. She said Smith left with the other two teens in a car but was supposed to come right back.

Teen charged with involuntary manslaughter in crash that killed Blue Springs High senior

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County prosecutors filed two charges, including involuntary manslaughter, against a teenager related to a one-car crash that killed a Blue Springs High School senior in late January. Court records show that Tamerick Wright, 17, is suspected of being intoxicated during the crash on Interstate 470 that killed 17-year-old Nefertiti Smith the night of January 22. Wright and the other passenger suffered serious injuries, while Smith was declared dead at Centerpoint Medical Center. Friends said Smith had aspirations of becoming a chef after graduating high school. According to a highway patrol crash report, Wright, Smith and a third person in the Mitsubishi Eclipse that Wright was driving were all ejected after he lost control and traveled off the interstate, striking a guardrail and flipping over.
