Two airlifted, in critical condition after horse and buggy wreck - Daily Journal

Two people were airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center after a wreck on Hwy 6 in Ponotoc County. The wreck involved a truck and a horse and buggy. Hwy 6 was closed for a period of time, but the highway is now open. Ray Hall from Mississippi Highway Patrol F said wrecks like this don'€™t happen often, but when they do, it'€™s usually in Ponotoc County.

PONTOTOC: Amish family badly hurt after horse-drawn buggy struck by pickup truck

The Mississippi Highway Patrol says three members of an Amish family were hurt when their horse-drawn buggy was struck by a pickup on Highway 6 west of Pontotoc. The husband was flown to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with life-threatening injuries and the wife was taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with serious injuries. Names have not been released at this time, but Master Sergeant Hall did provide us with the status of each person injured. We're told the child was flown to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis and is in critical condition. Master Sergeant Ray Hall said a husband, wife and their two-year-old, all from Randolph, were heading west when the truck crashed into the back of the buggy.

Master Sergeant Hall said the child was flown to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis, Hostetler was flown to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo and his wife was taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. We're told all three lived in Randolph, a small community in Pontotoc County, and reportedly the only Amish community in the South. Pontotoc County Coroner Kim Bedford said Joseph Hostetler, 26, has died from injuries he sustained after a vehicle struck his buggy. The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the three member Amish family's horse-drawn buggy was struck from behind by a pickup Saturday on Highway 6 west of Pontotoc. Bedford said Hostetler sustained massive head trauma from the collision.
