Distracted driving cited in fatal crash

The State Patrol website says a 20-year-old man from Hudson, Wis. was traveling north on State Highway 95 at 22nd Street North around 6:45 p.m. when his vehicle crossed the centerline and into the opposite ditch. The 2008 Saab then hit an embankment, causing it to go airborne and hit a Ford Fusion driven by a 22-year-old Wisconsin woman. She was killed in the crash.

"Preliminary evidence suggests the driver of the Saab may have been distracted" at the time it went out of control, the patrol said.

Fleming was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for his injuries. A hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday that he has been released.

Reached by telephone, Angela Fleming said her son was not ready to speak publicly about "this horrific incident. … He's devastated right now."
