2 dead, baby hospitalized following wrong-way crash on Interstate 75
Two people are dead and a baby has been hospitalized following a head-on crash on Interstate 75 in northern Bay County.
About 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, Michigan State Police troopers responded to the crash site on southbound I-75 in Pinconning Township. They determined a silver Chevrolet Impala had been heading north, traveling in the wrong lanes of the highway.
The Impala collided with a white Buick sedan that had been heading south.

The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Her four-month-old son is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

It's unclear why the driver was traveling in the wrong direction.
"That I can't say, you know, people become confused. I don't know if drugs or alcohol are a factor at this time. That's something that we will obviously be looking into, but there's potential for that I guess with any wrong way driving situation," explained Sgt. Mark Lesinksi.

After initially driving with traffic, Leitner did a U-turn on the interstate, and started heading north at a high rate of speed, police said. The 38-year-old Leitner collided head-on with a white 2017 Buick Lacrosse driven by George R. Garske, 83, and containing his 54-year-old daughter Ann Lynn Garske, both of Saginaw.
