UPDATE: Fatal motorcyclist-police car collision under investigation

The motorcyclist killed in a crash with a St. Clair Shores police car late Wednesday was a 20-year-old man who resided in the city, police said Thursday. This was a tragic accident and was not the result of a police pursuit, Police Chief Todd Woodcox said in a press release. Our city grieves for the family and their tragic loss of a loved one. Officials have not yet divulged the mans name. He was riding a motorcycle that collided with a police car driven by an officer who was making a U-turn on Eight Mile Road, between Interstate 94 and Beaconsfield Road, at approximately 9:30 p.m. to perform a traffic stop.

Police are investigating and say additional information will be released Thursday. Police say the crash happened on Wednesday night in St. Clair Shores. 

Probe of fatal crash involving cop may take couple more weeks

Shaw said the traffic crash reconstruction officer assigned to the case is more than halfway complete with his review. The investigation of a fatal crash involving a St. Clair Shores police officer and a motorcyclist could take at least two more weeks to complete. Police have not revealed the name of the patrol officer, who was placed on administrative leave as the investigation began. James Bush, 20, died after the Harley Davidson he was riding collided with the police vehicle driven by an officer July 23.

In a statement by St. Clair Shores police at 9:30 Wednesday night a marked St. Clair Shores police vehicle did hit the 20-year-old motorcyclist James Bush.
