Police tell driver in hit-and-run that killed 11-year-old to turn self in: 'Better than us having to hunt you down'

A blurry still showing the dark sedan was released by police on Facebook and the department website. The car likely has front-end damage, police say.  Anyone with information about the events is asked to call Methuen police at 617-993-0003.

Police are now looking at surveillance video from a nearby business to help identify the car. They are also asking for any witnesses to contact them.

Police are looking for anyone in the area who has surveillance cameras to check their footage between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m.   

Arrest Made In Methuen Hit-And-Run

Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon says that Toro is being held on $100,000 bail.

The man police say hit and killed an 11-year-old girl with his car as she crossed a Methuen street last week faces arraignment Monday morning in Lawrence District Court.   

Steven Toro was afraid to turn himself in after police say he killed 11-year-old girl with car, police reports say

Toro's mother told police she knew her son was involved in the fatal hit-and-run, but he was "too scared" to turn himself in, the Eagle-Tribune reports. The statement from Toro's mother was contained in a police report on file in court, according to the newspaper. Toro was arrested Saturday night and charged in connection with the girl's death.
