Toll collector struck, killed on Mass Pike

Police said a Massachusetts Turnpike toll collector has been struck and killed by a vehicle near the Auburn toll plaza. The toll collector was taken to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where he was pronounced dead. The driver of a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, a 31-year-old Charlton man, drive through an EZ-Pass lane, striking the toll collector as he was walking across the EZ-Pass lane, state police said. The 61-year-old worker from Holden was struck just after midnight Friday. The vehicle involved was stopped at the scene.

A toll worker was struck and killed early Friday morning on the Massachusetts Turnpike police confirm. Massachusetts State Police say the worker was struck at Interchange 10 near the Auburn toll booth just after midnight. The victim was taken to UMass Worcester, where they were pronounced dead. There are no charges at this point and the incident is under investigation.

A man was struck and killed by a pickup truck at a Massachusetts Turnpike toll booth early Friday morning. His name has not been released and police did not know if he was a toll booth worker. Investigators say 61-year-old Bill Pappas of Holden was crossing in front of an EZ Pass lane at the tolls when a 2010 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 31-year-old Charlton man headed home from work just after midnight struck him as his car was exiting the toll booth.
