Driver Charged After Hitting Officer, Causing Fatal Crash

Authorities have arrested a driver who police said hit and killed an officer in Temple Hills, Maryland. Authorities have charged 22-year-old Larry Donnell Hinson with first and second degree assault on a police officer, vehicular theft, and several other offenses. Police said an officer stopped the car that Hinson was driving due to driving without headlights, but Hinson drove off, striking and injuring an officer. Hinson then crashed into multiple cars about a half-mile away. Charlie Viverett, 61, of Clinton, Maryland, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Hinson ran from the officers, but was found soon after. Authorities noted the SUV Hinson was driving had been stolen.
