Family members and friends of deceased Elizabeth Braddock, 32, and her 6-year-old daughter, Karissa Wise, put a cross into the ground near the canal along the 4400 block of Veterans Memorial Boulevard on Friday (April 17).

Shortly after those crashes, Jefferson Parish officials began to discuss installing guardrails or some sort of barricade along the drainage canals. Most recently, the parish commissioned studies in East and West Jefferson to determine where wrecks happen most, what type of safety measures should be put in place and the potential costs.
Elizabeth Braddock, 32, was driving an SUV in which her 6-year-old daughter Carrise Wise was a passenger west on Veterans Memorial Boulevard when she for some reason veered off of the roadway and plunged the car into a canal at about 1:37pm. The car was fully upside-down and submerged in the water with both passengers still inside, and despite attempts to rescue them, Wise was pronounced dead at the scene and her mother Braddock died after being taken to a hospital.
