"This morning Troop I was notified about a fatality crash on Martin Street located within the city limits of Breaux Bridge," said Lt. J.B. Slaton, Louisiana State Police. "What we know at this time is that it was a single-vehicle crash involving three, middle school-aged juvenile victims."

Investigators say that the children were struck by a pick-up truck and the driver then tried to flee the scene, crashing into a ditch.

State Police say 32-year-old Jeremy Abraham was driving 55 miles per hour in a 20 mile per hour zone. Officials also say he did not have a driver's license or insurance, he had an expired license plate, and he did not have a motor vehicle inspection sticker.

Breaux Bridge man facing 2 counts of vehicular homicide in fatal crash

Louisiana State Police have determined that a Breaux Bridge man was driving his Ford truck at more than twice the posted speed limit of 25 mph when he struck and killed two teenagers Thursday morning in Martin St. west of LA Hwy 31 in St. Martin Parish, according to a State police news release said. 

The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. on Martin Street in Breaux Bridge when for unknown reasons, a pickup truck ran off the road and hit a group of children. A 15-year-old girl died at the scene, a 14-year-old girl was taken to the hospital where she died. A 13-year-old girl was taken to Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge with serious injuries. The driver of the pickup, Jeremy Abraham, attempted to flee the scene crashed into a ditch and now is in state police custody. Abraham was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of vehicular injury, reckless operation, no insurance, no driver's license, expired license plate and no motor vehicle inspection sticker. He may also face charges of resisting an officer and battery of a police officer for the incident.
