Wilkins told NBC News the girl had blood on her legs and face, possibly from a broken nose, and was barefoot except for one sock. "She told me that her mom and her dad were dead, and she was in a plane crash, and the plane was upside down," he said. "She asked if she could stay here."

Investigators expected at crash site this morning

The public is asked to avoid the area so as not to impede emergency equipment and personnel. Traffic along KY 810 is down to one lane in the area to allow nearby residents access to their homes.

She survived the plane crash that killed her family. Now she’s been adopted.

Sailor Gutzler had her adoption finalized Thursday, according to WHAS TV in Louisville, Kentucky. She was adopted by her half-sister, Kasie Dlubala, and Dlubala’s husband, Daniel.  

A small plane crashed near Eddyville on January 2. The only survivor is a 7-year-old girl, identified as Sailor Gutzler, who walked away from the crash site looking for help. A local resident called 911 and told police the girl walked to his home and told him she'd been involved in a plane accident. Sailor was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities found the plane wreckage a couple of hours later in a wooded area off of Buckberry Trail near KY-810 South in Lyon County. The victims have been identified 49-year-old Marty Gutzler; 45-year-old Kimberly Gutzler; their daughter, 9-year-old Piper Gutzler; and her cousin, 14-year-old Sierra Wilder. All four were from Nashville, IL. Air traffic controllers lost contact with a Piper PA-34 over Marshall County after the pilot had reported engine problems.
