Woman injured in bike crash near bridge

Earwood said the woman crossed the concrete Shunga Trail at the bottom of the embankment, then hit a large concrete bridge pillar. A 30-year-old woman suffered what were described as possible serious injuries Wednesday morning when she crashed her bicycle under a bridge East Topeka. Earwood said he rushed down to the woman, who apparently hit her head and injured her wrist upon impact. The accident was reported at 7:49 a.m. just west of S.E. 4th and Lafayette, under a bridge spanning the Shunga Creek. He said the woman at first was unconscious, but then “came to.” He said he immediately called 911. “I feel so bad for her,” Earwood said.
