Hunter killed Monday in Jefferson County accident

A man was killed Monday morning in an apparent hunting accident in Jefferson County, authorities said. The accident was reported around 7:45 a.m. in a rural area east of Winchester, said Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig. Jefferson County sheriff’s officers remained at the scene as of late Thursday morning. Additional details, including whether anyone was with the victim at the time of the shooting, weren’t immediately available. The victim, whose name wasn’t immediately available, appeared to have been shot by his own gun while he was either getting into or out of his vehicle, Herrig said.
