39-week pregnant woman dead after crash, baby delivered & doing well

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A woman is dead after a crash in Overland Park, Kan., Sunday night. According to police, around 7 p.m. a tan vehicle carrying one person was heading west on 75th Street and crashed into a silver Chevy Truck with two occupants. Hospital staff was able to successfully deliver the baby, but the woman later died from injuries related to the crash. One of the crash victims as a 39-week pregnant woman. Six of the ten people involved in the crash were taken to local hospitals.

Baby delivered, mother dies after traffic accident in Olathe

OLATHE — Police say a pregnant woman who was injured in a traffic accident delivered her baby before dying at a hospital. Overland Park police say child was delivered and the mother later died of her injuries. The accident occurred Sunday evening in Overland Park when a car ran a red light and hit a truck carrying two people. The driver of the vehicle that ran the red light was treated for injuries and taken to the Johnson County jail awaiting charges. The woman, who was 39 weeks pregnant, was among six people taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical.

A pregnant woman involved in a horrific crash has died, but amazingly, doctors were able to deliver her baby. It was a violent crash that claimed the life of a 39-week pregnant woman and brought the usually bustling intersection of 75th Street and Metcalf Avenue to a screeching halt. "We looked out the drive-thru window and saw the mangled car and truck was there," Ashley Upham remembered. Wilson said her brother was running late for work and was going to stop by their mother's house first. He's said to be doing okay, according to her family, but the baby's mother died a short time after he was delivered.

Man charged in fatal Overland Park crash makes first court appearance

Raphael Sherman, 21, is charged with involuntary manslaughter for the crash that killed 25-year-old Denise Lopez.  Sherman remains in jail on a $250,000 bond and is due back in court on January 21 for a hearing. Lopez`s family declined to talk on Tuesday, and so did Sherman`s mother who attended her son`s first court appearance. Sherman also faces two counts of reckless aggravated battery for the injuries two others suffered in the crash. Johnson County District Attorney Stephen Howe said Prairie Village police tried to stop Sherman for a traffic violation, but he sped away five seconds before the fatal crash .

Metro moms collect diapers for baby boy who lost mother in Overland Park crash

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Step inside the Home Family Holistic Center in Overland Park and you'll see in the lobby boxes and bags of diapers are now piling up. Again, organizers are only asking for diapers and gift cards right now to assist Lopez's baby and his family. Ashley, a mother of four herself, and more than a dozen other area moms are now collecting as many diapers as they can and gift cards for Baby Mario. We are especially collecting diapers and gift cards like to Target will be a really great thing because it will be continuing after the donations have kind of worn off, " added Ashley.

Funeral held for pregnant woman killed in Overland Park crash

Friends of Ramos held a donation drive on Friday at Christ the King Elementary School to help collect baby items to give to her family. Also, a GoFundMe page was created in honor of Ramos. As of Friday evening, the fund had more than $4,500 in donations.
