Woman, teen girl died in I-80 crash, Iowa State Patrol says

NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a Des Moines woman and her 13-year-old daughter have died in a traffic accident on Interstate 80 in central Iowa. The SUV driver and an 11-year-old passenger were taken to a hospital. An accident report says the crash killed 30-year-old Sabrina Watkins and 13-year-old Natasha Watkins. Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Nathan Ludwig says a 14-year-old driver lost control of a westbound sport utility vehicle while passing a semitrailer, and the SUV ran off the roadway into a roadside ditch.

Des Moines Mother and Daughter Killed in Highway Crash

Nathan Ludwig the Iowa State Patrol. 11-year-old Nataija Watkins and her mother, 39-year-old Sabrina Watkins, both from Des Moines, died Tuesday and they are more than two numbers added. The Iowa State Patrol is still investigating what may have caused Bryneisha to lose control of the vehicle. "We believe at this they were not wearing seat belts in the back seat and under the age of 18 you have to be wearing your seat belt," said Sgt. Wednesday, all five victims have been added to the running tally but Iowa State troopers and the families of those involved hope drivers who pass the signs everyday see so much more than a death toll. The 280 five traffic deaths on Iowa roads so far this year may seem as an obscure number that most cannot relate to.
