Its such a tremendous tragedy. Accident claims the life of beloved educator

Several people who knew Minnis praised his commitment to community service and passion for helping youth in the area. Minnis was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Terre Haute and a long-time board member of the Vigo County Education Foundation.

The crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on State Road 63. Joe Minnis died in the collision. Minnis was traveling northbound on 63 and hydroplaned, crossed the median and collided with a semi truck in the southbound lanes. Minnis served on the school board for three years, and was named president of the board in 2009.
