The 50-year-old father in the buggy was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother of the family was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital. A child, less than a year old, was airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital.

Friday near Billie Creek Village on U.S. 36 involving an Amish horse buggy and a dump truck.
A dump truck hit a family of five riding in a buggy in Parke County. The accident killed one and sent two others to Indianapolis hospitals. Police report a dump truck was going up a hill and knocked the buggy off the road. The dump truck driver told police the sun was in his eyes so he couldn't see the buggy. Two other children involved are in "okay" condition, according to authorities. Officials also said two horses were put to sleep because they were compromising the safety of the family.
