Austin Porter of Jeffersonville appeared Wednesday before a Clark County judge who entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Porter also faces charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs and other charges.

Boyfriend charged with reckless homicide in crash that killed girlfriend

Ten months after a deadly crash that killed his girlfriend, a Jeffersonville man faces charges for it. Austin Porter, 19, is accused of reckless homicide as well as four counts of operating a vehicle under the influence in an accident that took the life of his girlfriend, 18-year-old Taylor N. Johnson. Porter was driving an SUV on Interstate-265 near the 7-mile marker when he wrecked on I-265 in Clark County in February. The couple's 11-month-old daughter, however, was found securely strapped in her car seat in the rear of the vehicle. Porter, who was also ejected, was injured in the crash.

“An 11-month-old passenger in the vehicle was found still securely strapped into her child passenger seat in the rear of the vehicle,” according to a statement released by the agency.

Young mother killed in rollover crash; boyfriend and child hospitalized

Police say an 18-year-old mother was killed in rollover crash which also hospitalized her boyfriend and their 11-month daughter.
Austin W. Porter, 19, Jeffersonville, was driving east on Interstate 265 near mile marker 7 at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday when the vehicle lost control, rolled as many as three times, and landed 100 feet from the roadway. Porter and his front-seat passenger, Taylor N. Johnson of Clarksville, were both ejected. Porter was airlifted in critical condition to University of Louisville Hospital. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. An 11-month-old baby girl, the couple's daughter, was in the back seat, and the infant is reportedly in stable condition at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville.. Speed was a factor in the accident, and while the baby was secured in her carseat, neither adult was wearing a seat belt.
