Peru man charged with reckless homicide in high-speed crash near Kokomo

A Peru man is facing reckless homicide charges for causing a fatal crash during a high-speed chase Monday night in Howard County. Deryn Johnson, 21, admitted to police he had been smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol before he led police on a high-speed chase around 8:30 p.m. Johnson wasn't injured. The crash killed 73-year-old Nancy Cripe and 82-year-old Mary Dimitt, both of Kokomo. The chase reached speeds of more than 100 mph and lasted five minutes before Johnson's truck struck a house.

Trial date set for man accused in crash that killed elderly sisters

The trial has been set for Deryn Johnson accused killing two elderly sisters in a crash while running from police. Johnson appeared in court Friday morning for a pre-trial conference. He pleaded not guilty to the reckless homicide charges. In August, the 21-year-old hit another car at an intersection. 73-year-old Nancy Cripe and 82-year-old Mary Dimitt, both of Kokomo, died in the collision. Read more on the case here.
